A new friend, Lisa, who works at the local high school told us about turtle research that is done annually at a beach south of Volcano. Three of us decided to witness this once-a-year event. Her students work with the University of Hawaii Marine Science Dept to collect sea turtles to weigh, measure and check their health and progress. This young turtle was 83lbs and growing.
The other side of the beach had a lovely lily pad pond near the shade of coconut trees. Then Deb took us to the southernmost tip of the United States at the base of the Big Island of Hawaii at Punalu’u where we enjoyed a bakery treat.
